Sites where you can legally download new movie releases without
paying some type of fee are very rare.

There are many sites advertising free downloads of recent movie releases, but 'free' is a lie!

All these sites require you to pay for a membership or a subscription to their 'service'.

That is not free!

Usually, this is a one time fee of anywhere from $19.95 to $49.95 for a 'lifetime membership'. This supposedly gives you access to unlimited movies for downloading.

The companies that print the CDs and DVDs for sale at retail stores have the owner's permission to do so, therefore, are legal.

Movies are protected by copyright and it is illegal to download anything protected by copyright without permission from the owner. Paying a one time fee for unlimited downloads does not constitute permission from the owner.

It's called 'ripping you off'!

What you are paying for is a software application you can get elsewhere on the internet for free.

No special knowledge is needed for file sharing. Everything you need to know can be found on the internet, free.

Copyright free works are what file sharing was created for and there are ample copyright free works available on the web to be shared.

The so called free movie download sites attract people by promising them the ability to download new releases. Sometimes before, but sometimes not until after you have already paid are you advised in the fine print not to break the law by downloading copyrighted works without the owner's permission.

For those of us who do not desire to break the law, the easiest and safest methods for getting new movie releases is buying or renting.

Online companies such as Movielink, CinemaNow and TotalVid also have a license to sell these copyrighted works.

Yes, movies can be bought or rented online via download just as easily as they can be purchased or rented at your local movie rental store.

The advantage?

You never have to leave the comfort of your home.

The disadvantage?

Purchasing a movie for download online doesn't put a disc with a jacket and nice cover in your hand. Fortunately, the new movie releases you purchase online can be legally burned to disc.

So the question is, will your collection of new movie releases be free, legal, pirated or a combination?
